Poker Stinks

It’s been interesting to read some of the insider comments on Twitter this year from some of our biggest poker pros. Apparently, a lot of them are concerned with their opponents personal hygiene. Here are some of the best ones, collected by Gambling 911.

Maria Ho said, “And here I thought I was home free with an empty seat to my left for two hrs only for it to be filled by another smelly guy. Odor Tally +1.”

Doyle Brunson: “they should have a hygiene policy at tournaments. Some foreign guy sat next to me and smelled so bad i almost gagged at the table.”

PokerTips.org also mentioned on their site that there was a big hygiene problem at the host hotel (the Rio) in general. They dissed the Rio for not being on the Strip, but mostly for being overly populated with poker players, referring to it as an “island of poker players,” which is not all it might seem to an outsider sitting at home reading about the excitement. They stated, “Poker players are annoying, smelly, and disgusting people who stand in the hallway complaining to someone who isn’t listening about how their Ace-King got cracked. It doesn’t take a whole lot of exposure to that environment before the thought of getting the hell out of there sounds fantastic.”

Just this year, Michael Wax was kicked out of the Borgata Atlantic City after playing poker for 17 hours. Understandably, he began to smell and was asked to leave. According to Wax, he said to the told casino officials, “There’s no question I stink. I’m not denying it. I do have an odor. I’ve been playing for 17 hours.” Ultimately, Wax filed a complaint with the Casino Control Commission and wouldn’t mind an apology by the Borgata.

The moral to this story is, many poker players may and do stink. If you are a poker player and think this might apply to you, you might want to seriously think about purchasing some deodorant.
