One of the world’s largest social game developers of social games, Zynga, has recently announced that they have partnered with the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Together they will bring an exciting new promotion to Facebook members and poker fanatics alike.
Zynga`s new game, Texas Hold ‘em, is currently the top game application among Facebook’s active 12 million monthly users. Zynga’s poker game is free for any Facebook user who wants to play it. Several “Shootout” tournaments will take place on the Texas Hold’em Facebook game app. These tournaments will ultimately give two players an opportunity to win a seat in the Main Event at the 2009 WSOP, possibly discovering the next Peter Eastgate.
Zynga CEO, Mark Pincus, says, “We built our Texas Hold’ em Poker game into the largest game on Facebook by keeping an eye on what is important to our players. We know that poker is a lifestyle which includes playing online and offline and watching it on TV. This partnership is an opportunity to bring those worlds together.”
The Facebook Shootout tournaments will begin on June 8 and go through June 22. Only Eighteen winners from the possible thousands of players who could potentially register for the tournaments will be selected at random to compete in the Final Showdown to take place from June 29-30. The last two players standing will become VIP WSOP attendees to be officially announced on July 1. They will then head off to Las Vegas with their airfare paid, plus a three-night stay at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino, a tour of the WSOP backstage, and a one-day pass to the VIP WSOP player’s lounge.
WSOP VP, Craig Abrahams, says, “Any poker player knows the Holy Grail is to win the Main Event of the World Series of Poker. Now for the first time, we’re reaching fans in a new way, through Zynga’s platform. Players from all over the world can play the free Texas Hold ‘em game from the convenience of their own living room, and win a seat to the biggest poker tournament in the world.”
